Our Bathroom Fitting Process

Process
how we work
From First Call to Finished Bathroom

A clear, transparent process keeps your bathroom project on time and on budget.

Every Brentford Bathroom Fitters bathroom follows the same five-step process. You'll know exactly what's happening, when, and what it costs — from the day we first meet until you're using your finished bathroom.

  • 1. Free consultation — We visit your home, listen to what you want, and measure up.
  • 2. Design & fixed quote — You receive a detailed design, product list, and an itemised fixed-price quote.
  • 3. Scheduling — We book a start date that works for you and order all materials in advance.
  • 4. Installation — Our in-house team completes every stage: strip-out, first-fix, tiling, second-fix, electrics, snagging.
  • 5. Handover & aftercare — Final walkthrough, clean-down, paperwork, and a 2-year workmanship guarantee.
Our Bathroom Fitting Process — Brentford Bathroom Fitters

Step-by-step: how we deliver your bathroom

1. Free design consultation

A senior fitter visits your home to measure the bathroom, discuss what you want, and identify any complications. We bring sample boards for tiles, taps, and brassware so you can see and feel options in your own light. Visit takes 30-60 minutes and there's no charge or obligation.

2. Itemised written quote

Within 2-3 working days we send a written quote that itemises labour, materials, waste disposal, certificates, and VAT separately. We also share a draft programme — when each stage happens, when noisy work is scheduled, and when you'll have access to which fittings.

3. Materials selection and ordering

Once you accept the quote and pay the deposit, we order materials. Lead times for standard fittings are 1-2 weeks; bespoke items, imported tiles, or made-to-measure glass enclosures can take 4-6 weeks. We confirm a firm start date once everything is in stock.

4. Strip-out and protection

Day one is strip-out. We protect your floors, stairs, and access routes with dust sheets and corner protectors. We isolate water and electrics only where necessary. Skip arrives, old suite goes out, and we inspect what's behind the walls. If we find anything unexpected — rot, asbestos, lead pipe — we stop, explain, and agree the fix with you in writing before continuing.

5. First-fix plumbing and electrics

Days 2-4 (typically) cover first fix: new water and waste pipework, new electrical circuits, ventilation ducting, and any structural work. This is the longest stretch of disruption — power and water may be off for short periods. The bones of your new bathroom go in here.

6. Plastering, boarding, and waterproofing

Days 4-7: walls are plasterboarded or rendered, the floor is levelled, wet zones are tanked with a two-coat liquid waterproof membrane, and we test for water-tightness before any tiling. This step is invisible in the finished bathroom but determines whether the bathroom lasts 25 years or starts leaking in 5.

7. Tiling and flooring

Days 7-11: walls and floor are tiled, with floor first or wall first depending on detail. We bed every tile in flexible adhesive and use sanitary-grade silicone at all junctions. Grouting follows after a 24-hour cure. Flooring (LVT, vinyl, or tile) is laid and edge-sealed.

8. Second-fix and commissioning

Days 11-14: the new sanitaryware goes in, brassware is connected, electrics are terminated and tested, lighting and ventilation are commissioned, and silicone seals are run. We test every fitting — taps, shower, WC flush, lights, fan — and check temperature stability and water pressure.

9. Walkthrough and handover

On the final day we walk you through the finished bathroom, show you isolation valves and how the controls work, and note any minor snags on a written list. We address snags within 7 days. You receive a project pack with all certificates (Part P, Building Regs Compliance, manufacturer warranties, IBG certificate).

10. 30-day check-in and aftercare

30 days after handover we check in to make sure everything's still working as it should. Workmanship is guaranteed in writing for the warranty period. If anything's wrong, call us — we come back.
